SOCIETY HISTORY
Celebrating 25 Years of Cambridge Finance
2026 marks a major milestone as we celebrate 25 years of the Cambridge finance community, uniting the vibrant history of student-run finance societies. A special thank you to everyone for being part of the society and for supporting us.
Our Story
CUIC was later rebranded as Cambridge University Investment and Finance Society (CUFIC) in 2011.
In 2013, CUFIC and CUIBS merged to form Cambridge University Finance and Investment Society (CUFIS) in its modern form. The merger combined strong recruitment-focused events across financial services and established an investment fund and an analyst programme that have continued to this day.
The first student finance society in Cambridge was the Cambridge University Investment Club (CUIC), founded under the patronage of the Judge Business School in 2001, which sought sponsorship for its investment fund and held general recruitment events.
The Cambridge University Investment Banking Society (CUIBS) was founded in 2007 as a platform for students interested in investment banking. The society ran recruitment events and would later merge to become one of the principal components of CUFIS.
In 2024, CUFIS merged with the Cambridge Student Investment Fund (CamSIF) to form CUFIS x CamSIF.
CamSIF has become a part of the broader CUFIS society, focusing on portfolio management, educational bootcamps, Sunday meetings, and Pitch Days. CUFIS remains the overarching society and will continue to provide Cambridge students with an unparalleled career-related experience by organising info sessions, workshops, panels, fireside chats, and flagship events with companies across the financial sector.
Moving Forwards
CUFIS has a long-established presence at Cambridge. Over time, the society has developed through a series of mergers and organisational changes, reflecting the evolving interests of its members and the wider finance landscape. Today’s society is the result of these gradual developments, built on the work of previous committees and generations of students.
Thank you all for being a part of this journey, and we look forward to what’s to come in the future!
